Bring your swimwear: ReykjavÃk has 18 public swimming pools, filled with geothermal water. Even if you do not swim, you can soak in the hot tubs and enjoy the sauna or steam baths like the locals.Â

Tap water in Iceland is pristine and free, and consistently ranks among the best and purest tap waters in the world, so you can pack a reusable bottle and skip buying bottled water. ReykjavÃk’s cold tap water is pure, untreated spring water and completely safe (and delicious) to drink. The hot water is heated by geothermal energy and may smell slightly of sulfur; this is completely normal but you can let the tap run on cold for a few seconds before filling a glass or bottle.Â

Iceland is virtually cashless: Credit and debit cards, as well as contactless payments (Apple Pay, Google pay) are accepted almost everywhere.

Tipping is not expected: Tipping is not customary in Iceland. Service
charges and taxes are automatically built into restaurant menus, bar
tabs, and hotel rates. While leaving a little extra for exceptional
service is always appreciated, it is never a requirement.

Plugs are standard European: Iceland uses standard Northern European
electrical outlets (Type C and Type F “Schuko”) delivering 230V at 50Hz.
Guests traveling from North America, the UK, or Asia will need to bring

Iceland is incredibly safe, but 112 is the number to know:
ReykjavÃk is consistently ranked as one of the safest cities in the
world, and violent crime is extremely rare. However, for complete peace
of mind—or in the event of a medical issue, minor accident, or
weather-related emergency—the national emergency number is 112. This
single number connects you to police, fire, and ambulance services.
At the conference venue, WiFi access will be available via eduroam as well as a guest WiFi network for those without eduroam access.
